Barack Obama and Rick Santorum Research Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 250 words
Barack Obama and Rick Santorum - Research Paper Example The paper will investigate subtleties in a concise way Rick Santorumââ¬â¢s arrangement with respect to Iran and their weapons. Rick appears to be very radical and static about the Iranians. In one of the NBC press, he expressed that he would work viably with Israel to destroy the progressing atomic weapon making process in Iran. The arrangement is to guarantee that the Iranians stays heavily influenced by the US local army ands that they don't develop weapons that can hurt the US, in one way or the other. A few people, particularly the Muslims in the US, have considered this to be a type of contempt that the competitor has towards the Muslims in the United States. Other proof is uncovered on Rickââ¬â¢s asserts on Obamaââ¬â¢s religion. He upheld a case that the US president is a pledged Muslim and ought not be the leader of the US (Lysiak and Reddan, 2012). As a presidential applicant, the above stand has truly influenced his candidature, particularly among the American Muslims. Most Muslims have considered him to be hostile to Muslim applicant, and a lot of them have pulled back their enthusiasm for him. His case or approach has not influenced some other US resident separated from himself. His critical help in Muslim social orders has altogether gone

How to Handle Debt Collection Scams
How to Handle Debt Collection Scams How to Handle Debt Collection Scams How to Handle Debt Collection ScamsFake debt collectors call people and try to trick them into paying up for expired or even entirely nonexistent phantom debts. No one likes dealing with debt collectors. Itâs rarely a fun conversation to have, especially when so much of your financial life could be dependent on whether that collections agency is reporting your account to the credit bureaus.Unpaid debts can drag down your credit score leading to fewer options when you need a personal loan, leaving you stuck with short-term no credit check loans and bad credit loans like payday loans, cash advances, and title loans. Plus, its likely that additional penalties and fees that could be attached to those unpaid debts. But much worse than dealing with a legitimate debt collector is accidentally falling for a scammer pretending to be a legit collector. Thats how you end up forking over hundreds or even thousands of dollars and coming away with absolutely nothing to show for it!This is why it âs important to learn how to spot debt collection scams and how to overcome them.Fake debt collectors are a real problem.Debt collection scammers use manipulation and deceit in their attempts to fool you. Itâs become such a major issue that government agencies have started to step in.âReceiving a telephone call from a debt collector is not a pleasant experience,â acknowledged Steve Weisman, a lawyer, author, and identity theft expert who writes at Scamicide.com (@Scamicide). âBeing hounded by someone attempting to collect a debt you do not owe is fraud. These non-existent debts are sometimes referred to as âphantom debts.ââThe Federal Trade Commission (FTC) recently obtained a temporary restraining order against Global Asset Financial Services Group, LLC, ten affiliated companies, and their six individual principals preventing them from continuing to use deceptive and threatening tactics to collect phantom debts from consumers that were not even owed by the consume rs.In some instances, the scammers posed as attorneys and threatened lawsuits if their victims did not pay the non-existent debts. The case against Global Asset Financial Services Group, LLC and the other defendants is continuing in the Federal District Court for the Western District of North Carolina.âThankfully, there are ways you can tell if a debt collection call is legitimate.Verify the debt and the debt collector. Some of the steps to verifying the legitimacy of a debt youâre being contacted about are fairly obvious; but when faced with the pressure of persons presenting themselves as a debt collector, itâs easy to get shaken up.âFirst of all, work out if you actually owe any money!â urged Stephen Hart, CEO of Cardswitcher. âIts surprising how many people dont remember to do that.A simple trick is to do a simple Google search on the phone number or email address that they are contacting you from and see what comes up. Youll often find that common scammers will be n amed and shamed by others. If you cant find any information, or the website that youre led to has an odd design, lots of spelling and grammatical errors, and just doesnt look right, that should set some alarm bells sounding. While its obvious that a debt collector will want you to repay money quickly, theyll usually give you a bit of breathing space and give you some options to pay back what you owe. If a debt collector is pressuring you to pay back money immediately, thats usually a sign that theyre not a legitimate collector. And thatâs not the only suspicious behavior a fake debt collector might exhibit.âIf the debt collector will not identify themselves by name (person and company), hang up,â advised Todd Christensen, education manager for Money Fit by DRS, Inc. (@MoneyFitbyDRS). âIf the collection agency threatens to send a sheriff to your doorstep, it is likely a scam and definitely a violation of the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.If the debt collector will not or cannot tell you what the debt was for, hang up. If the collection agency canât provide you within 30 days documentation of what the debt was originally for, block their number and hang up on them.âWhile some people have gone to extraordinary lengths to fight back against fake debt collectors, their path certainly isnt for everyone. And while hanging up a suspected scammer is always a good response, there are other methods you can use as well!Heres how you can deal with them.Above all else, do not give them any of your personal information.âDo NOT give the debt collector your payment information (card and certainly never your bank account information) until you have received satisfactory proof by mail that you actually owe the money,â warned Christensen.âAsk for the mailing address under whatever pretense you like (e.g. âso I can send a paymentâ), then, if you feel you have been scammed or are the target of a scam, contact a local nonprofit credit counseling agency or e ven an attorney specializing in consumer debt. The credit counseling agency should not charge to guide you in drafting a letter to request the organization cease contacting you. However, an attorney may charge $100 or more for the service. Iâve had a client who has been the target of repeated debt scams. The $100 paid to a local attorney ended up being well worth it to her.âWeisman offered similar advice, as well as a recommendation to reach out to the supposed creditor directly:âSubject to strict federal laws, legitimate debt collectors are permitted to call debtors, however, the law prohibits them from threatening imprisonment for the failure to pay a debt and attempting to collect a debt that the debt collector knows is bogus.âIt can be difficult to know when someone calls attempting to collect a debt if indeed the debt collector is legitimate or not, so the best course of action if you receive such a call is to not discuss the debt with the person calling, but instead dem and that they send you a written âvalidation noticeâ by regular mail which describes the debt they allege you owe and includes a listing of your rights under the Federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.âNever give personal information over the phone to anyone who calls you attempting to collect a debt. You can never be sure who they are. If you receive the validation notice and it appears to be legitimate, you may be better off contacting your creditor directly because the person who called you may not be representing the creditor, but may merely have information about the debt.âIt can be scary dealing with a collections agent, but itâs important to keep your cool. Biography of King Abdullah, Ruler of Saudi Arabia
Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al Saud (August 1, 1924ââ¬âJanuary 23, 2015) was the king of Saudia Arabia from 2005 to 2015. During his reign, tensions increased between conservative Salafi (Wahhabi) forces and liberal reformers. While the king positioned himself as a relative moderate, he did not promote many substantive reforms; in fact, during Abdullahs tenure, Sauda Arabia was accused of numerous human rights violations. Fast Facts: King Abdullah Known For: King Abdullah was the king of Saudi Arabia from 2005 to 2015.Also Known As: Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al SaudBorn: August 1, 1924 in Riyadh, Saudi ArabiaParents: King Abdulaziz andà Fahda bint Asi Al ShuraimDied: January 23, 2015 in Riyadh, Saudi ArabiaSpouse(s): 30Children: 35 Early Life Little is known about King Abdullahs childhood. He was born in Riyadh on August 1, 1924, the fifth son of Saudi Arabias founding king, Abdulaziz bin Abdulrahman Al Saud (also known as Ibn Saud). Abdullahs mother, Fahda bint Asi Al Shuraim, was Ibn Sauds eighth wife of 12. Abdullah had between 50 and 60 siblings. At the time of Abdullahs birth, his father Amir Abdulazizs realm included only the northern and eastern sections of Arabia. The Amir defeated Sharif Hussein of Mecca in 1928 and declared himself king. The royal family was quite poor until about 1940,à at which point Saudi oil revenues began to increase. Education Details of Abdullahs education are sparse, but the official Saudi Information Directory states that he had a formal religious education. According to the Directory, Abdullah supplemented his formal schooling with extensive reading. He also spent a long stint living with the desert Bedouin people in order to learn traditional Arab values. Career In August 1962, Prince Abdullah was appointed to lead the Saudi Arabian National Guard. The National Guards duties include providing security for the royal family, preventing coups, and guarding the Muslim Holy Cities of Mecca and Medina. The force includes a standing army of 125,000 men, plus a tribal militia of 25,000. In March 1975, Abdullahs half-brother Khalid succeeded to the throne upon the assassination of another half-brother, King Faisal. King Khalid appointed Prince Abdullah second deputy prime minister. In 1982, the throne passed to King Fahd after Khalids death and Prince Abdullah was promoted once more, this time to deputy prime minister. In this role, he presided over meetings of the kings cabinet. King Fahd also officially named Abdullah the Crown Prince, meaning he was next in line for the throne. Regent In December 1995, King Fahd had a series of strokes that left him more or less incapacitated and unable to fulfill his political duties. For the next nine years, Crown Prince Abdullah acted as regent for his brother, although Fahd and his cronies still wielded considerable influence over public policy. King of Saudi Arabia King Fahd died on August 1, 2005, and Crown Prince Abdullah became king, taking power in name as well as in practice. He inherited a nation torn between fundamentalist Islamists and modernizing reformers. The fundamentalists sometimes used terrorist acts (such as bombing and kidnapping) to express their anger over issues like the stationing of American troops on Saudi soil. The modernizers increasingly used blogs and pressure from international groups to call for increased womens rights, reform of Sharia-based laws, and greater press and religious freedoms. King Abdullah cracked down on the Islamistsà but didnt make the significant reforms for which many observers both inside and outside of Saudi Arabia had hoped. Foreign Policy King Abdullahà was known throughout his career as a staunch Arab nationalist, yet he reached out to other countries as well. In 2002, for example, the king put forth a Middle East Peace Plan. It received renewed attention in 2005, but has languished since then and has yet to be implemented. The plan calls for a return to the pre-1967 borders and a right of return for Palestinian refugees. In return, Israel would control the Western Wall and some of the West Bank, and receive recognition from Arab states. To placate Saudi Islamists, the king disallowed U.S. Iraq War forces to use bases in Saudi Arabia. Personal Life King Abdullah had more than 30 wivesà and fathered at least 35 children. According to the Saudi Embassys Official Biography of the King, he bred Arabian horsesà and founded the Riyadh Equestrian Club. He also loved to read, and established libraries in Riyadh and Casablanca, Morocco. American ham radio operators also enjoyed chatting on the air with the Saudi king. At the time of his death, the king had a personal fortune estimated at $18 billion, making him among the top five richest royals in the world. Death King Abdullah became ill and was taken to the hospital at the beginning of 2015. He died on January 23 at the age of 90. Legacy After King Abdullahs death, his half-brother Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud became the king of Saudi Arabia. Abdullahs legacy is a controversial one. In 2012, the United Nations awarded him a UNESCO Gold Medal for his efforts to promote dialogue and peace in the Middle East. Other groupsââ¬âincluding Human Rights Watchââ¬âcriticized the king for his alleged human rights violations, including the mistreatment of prisoners. Abdullah was also criticized for his policies on religious freedom. In 2012, for example, the Saudi poet Hamza Kashgari was arrested for making several Twitter posts that allegedly denigrated the Islamic prophet Muhammed; he was imprisoned for nearly two years. Humans rights groups such as Amnesty International were highly critical of Saudi Arabias handling of the case. `` Indians Textualism, Morality, And The Problem Of...
In Jane Tompkins essay ââ¬ËIndiansââ¬â¢: Textualism, Morality, and the Problem of Historyâ⬠, several moral and philosophical problems with anti-foundationalism and poststructuralism are raised through the author s personal experiences and research of what truly happened during the European-Indian conflict when the British attempted to colonize what is now the United States. The most significant problem addressed in Tompkins essay is the tension that exists when poststructuralism is employed to avoid politicization of history because, by claiming every account is tainted with the individual s bias and is thus subjective, a concrete record of past events cannot be written. Without historical accounts to depend on, the study of history is devalued under this philosophical viewpoint and placed in an ivory tower where it can no longer be applied to the real world, creating a moral dilemma regarding the prevention of atrocities rather than create a depoliticized or completely accurate series of historical events. Tompkins essay challenges the poststructuralist mindset and showing how the removal of all subjectivity conflicts with the study of history. She does so by giving accounts of her life through the lens of poststructuralism, both as a child and as an adult doing research in the field of history herself. I donââ¬â¢t think I stand alone when I say that my lack of knowledge on this topic may come as no surprise, since there could be millions of others who are also not educated on this topic. In our society, unless the media presents topics to us, we almost have to be naturally curious or stumble upon things to find out the news of he world or things less commonly known to us regarding health and medical topics. The more grew in my knowledge of this practice, the more I discovered the ingestion of the mothers placenta could actually be very beneficial. Mothers across the world have been practicing this post-birth method for quicker healing from post-part depression, as well as its contribution to other great health benefits such as hormone boosting. While other countries are lacking in the times of placenta encapsulation, other entries such as Europe, the US. And Canada have been partaking in this health benefit to mothers for over a decade. She hopped on her bicycle and peddled up to the store. She trotted into the store to get the groceries. She grabbed a gallon of milk and a dozen eggs. Kris proceeded to the register and paid for the groceries. She trotted out the door just as she trotted in. Kris hopped on her bike and peddled down the block. As she crossed the first intersection, an old, rusted-out car struck her bicycle sending her flying through the air. The old jalopy sped off without even stopping. When Kris woke up, she was in a hospital and couldnt feel her legs. Her first thought was that they were gone; she glanced down and they were still there. The doctor rushed into the room as soon as Kris came to. The doctor told her that she fractured her back and wouldnt walk again. Kris looked up at the girls across the table. They looked at her in disbelief; they couldnt believe her unfortunate story. They said they were sorry, but she had heard that phrase a thousand times. By the end of the school day, she knew that she had three new friends. She guessed that they liked her out of sympathy, but it was better than no friends at all. Bibliography:

Essay about Japanese Culture
Essay about Japanese Culture Essay about Japanese Culture Japanese Culture Compared with European and American businessmen, Japanese businessmen pay more attention to establishing interpersonal relationships. In negotiations, Japanese believe that if one is going to carry out in cooperation with Japanese between friends, mutual trust is very important. The Japanese do not like to bargaining, with particular emphasis on whether they can trust each other to establish relations with foreign partners. If one can successfully establish a relationship of mutual trust, one will conclude and sign the deal pretty efficiently. Once this relationship established, these two sides work to maintain a long-term relationship. If foreign investors have never made contact with Japanese, they must first get trust before they negotiate. Therefore, trust is an important medium for a successful cooperation when with Japanese. Hofstede's framework Power distance: Japanese people are known to be told what is expected of them. They feel that the decisions of their employers are correct because of the power an individual encompasses. Power players prefer their subordinates to avoid eye contact with them. Japanese citizens view role and status hierarchy. Children are expected to respect parents. The United States is relatively small power distance country, American employees tend not to accept administrative privileges, generally the superiors and subordinates are the same. So in America, employees and managers are quite equal. Relationships are more harmonious, employees are more adept in learning, improving themselves, and achieving personal values. In India, employees expect to be directed clearly as to their functions and what is expected of them. Communication is top down and directive in its style, and often negative feedback is never offered up the ladder. Individualism vs collectivism: Japanese are collectivist, however there is less individualism present in their private life. They prefer to live by themselves rather than share a flat or apartment with a friend. Americans are more individualistic, it does not mean that all Americans are individualists, rather, it means that Americans are more likely to think and act in individual ways than people in collectivistic cultures are. But India is a society with both collectivistic and individualistic traits. ââ¬Å"The collectivist side means that there is a high preference for belonging to a larger social framework in which individuals are expected to act in accordance to the greater good of oneââ¬â¢s defined in-group(s).â⬠(Hofstede Center) Masculinity vs femininity Japan has the highest masculine society. Men are considered dominant and tough, while women emotional. The Japaneseââ¬â¢s masculinity index proves to the rest of the world that even though they are a small country with these traits, they have very efficient productivity. This is due to the strict rules of the business culture to achieve their goals and make their mark in the business world. America can be explained by the combination of a high Masculinity drive. Together with the most individualistic drive in the world. And India is actually very masculine in terms of visual display of success and power. Uncertainty avoidance index: Japanese seeks for harmony. It is a peaceful orientation which emphasizes the tendency to avoid ambiguity. Their decision making is direct with simple solutions. They are detail oriented which is another example of uncertainty avoidance. There social rules and rituals are designated in the appropriate behavior for particular situations so that there is rarely ambiguity about how to proceed. Long term orientation: Japan has high long term orientation. This means that they believe that family is the basis of society and must be respected. They have strong work ethic and believe

Standley favored pursuing a new design.à As a result, building of these vessels was delayed to FY1939 as naval architects began work in March 1937.à While the first two ships were formally ordered on April 4, 1938, a second pair of vessels was added two months later under theà Deficiency Authorization which passed due to rising global tensions.à Though the escalator clause of the Second London Naval Treaty had been invoked permitting the new design to mount 16 guns, Congress required that the vessels stay within the 35,000 ton limit set by the earlier Washington Naval Treaty. In planning for the new South Dakota-class, naval architects created a wide array of designs for consideration.à A central challenge proved to be finding ways to improve upon the North Carolina-class but remain within the tonnage limit.à The answer was the design of a shorter, by around 50 feet, battleship that utilized an inclined armor system.à This provided better underwater protection than earlier vessels.à As fleet commanders called for vessels capable of 27 knots, naval architects worked to find a way to achieve this despite the reduced hull length.à This was solved through the creative layout of machinery, boilers, and turbines.à For armament, the South Dakotas matched the North Carolinas in carrying nine Mark 6 16 guns in three triple turrets with a secondary battery of twenty dual-purpose 5 guns.à These guns were supplemented by an extensive and constantly evolving array of anti-aircraft weapons.à Assigned to Newport News Shipbuilding, the second ship of the class, USS Indiana (BB-58), was laid down on November 20, 1939.à Work on the battleship progressed and it entered the water on November 21, 1941, with Margaret Robbins, daughter of Indiana Governor Henry F. With the completion work in the yard, Indiana sailed and reached Pearl Harbor on December 12.à Following refresher training, the battleship rejoined combat operations and bombarded Iwo Jima on January 24 while en route to Ulithi.à Arriving there, it put to sea a short time later to assist in the invasion of Iwo Jima.à While operating around the island, Indiana and the carriers raided north to strike targets in Japan on February 17 and 25.à Replenishing at Ulithi in early March, the battleship then sailed as part of the force tasked with the invasion of Okinawa.à After supporting the landings on April 1, Indiana continued to conduct missions in the waters offshore into June.à The following month, it moved north with the carriers to mount a series of attacks, including shore bombardments, on the Japanese mainland.à It was engaged in these activities when hostilities ended on August 15. Non-current assets Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1250 words
Non-current assets - Essay Example The paper will look at two standards by the IAS, which are the IAS 16 and IAS 38 regarding non-current assets. This paper attempts to analyze the standards that IAS sets regarding accounting of non-current assets. It sets these guidelines on how organizations and companies should handle both tangible and intangible non-current assets. IAS is responsible for setting international auditing standards so that they act as guidelines for auditors and accountants to follow regarding non-current assets (Kirk, 234). Each part in the accounting profession has its own standards as a guide on how to handle it. For instance, handling plant and machinery under IAS 16 is different from dealing with intangible non-current assets under IAS 38. This creates a form of independence when dealing with various aspects in the accounting process. IAS standards on Property, plant, and equipment IAS 16 defines handling of property, plant and equipment which is different from IAS 38 which defines handling of in tangible assets in financial statements. Property, plant and equipment are all fixed tangible assets; therefore, adoption of a common method when dealing with them in the accounting process. ... The first guideline is their initial measurement which entails the initial cost and all other cost necessary to make the assets ready for use. It also includes capitalization of interest costs. The other step is the subsequent measurement of the fixed assets which entails depreciation and disposal of assets (Kirk, 234). The rule of Impairment and disposing of the assets indicates how to dispose of such assets in terms of the guidelines. Accounting standards regarding these three assets provides a guideline on how to classify long-lived assets that are held for sale and those held for use. Long-lived assets that are meant to be held for sale do not depreciate; therefore, their presentation should be separate. They should be placed separately in a statement of financial position. This is because they are not in the business for use, rather they are for sale; hence, their selling price does not fall. The accounting standards provide rules and formula regarding how to measure this type o f fixed assets (Kirk, 250). The other guideline regarding plant, property and equipment is the discontinued operations for those assets held for sale and those held for use. The impairment test and recoverability test give rules regarding recoverability of fixed assets and those that are not recoverable. There are also rules on the impairment loss on plant, property and equipment under the accounting standards. The standards provide for impairment loss that can be reversed, and that is unversed. This indicates how these types of losses are recognized when preparing financial statement (Alexander, 359). The standards also give conditions on when such losses cannot be reversed, for instance in situations where there is an increase in the fair value of plant,

Lovers stopped in time, unable to proceed to the lip locking trophy of affection. A simple four letter word that has changed the world by its beauty and awe. What are these interesting pictures of words and love? The Kiss, a dramatic scene unfolding before everyone created by Auguste Rodin, and LOVE, the simplistic sucker punch created by Robert Indiana, are wonderful creations that have both an impact and a meaning. These two sculptures have graced the art world with all their beauty leaving some breathless. They mean so many different things with different imagining, reside in separate parts of the world, but some sculptures are more well-known. In this case LOVE is more Known. To begin with, we all think of love as this beautiful, wondrous emotion that comes with a flood of hugs, and kisses. The Kiss, also identified as Francesca da Rimini, is a stunning picture of people in love. Auguste Rodin put everything he had into making this impressionist replica of the young, adulterous couple, Paolo and Francesca, from Dante's Inferno. Created in 1889, the figure is created in a way to symbolize that the lovers are focused on each other that you can hardly see their faces. The kiss that they are about to give each other is made to not have completely gone through, because Gianciotto Malatesta, Francesca's husband, killed both of them before they could finally achieve their kiss. It is a truly sensual piece due to the couple being nude, as well as, the smooth texture of the people compared to the roughness of the marble rock below them. This piece of eye candy has so much raw emotion behind it with such a depressing backstory to back it up. Love is apparently an e xtremely complicated subject for most people to comprehend. People someti... ...ferent wonderful artists and creations pop into people's minds. Indiana's worldwide popular phenomenon is known left and right. His creation appeared in the age when Warhol was painting cans of soup and people were making art to show points and movements. Different parts of the world know more about it than many other beautifully created sculptures. Something that hits a modern heartstring most likely would be remembered more than something that someone has never read or heard about before. All in all, even though The Kiss, a beautiful, well created masterpiece, put next to LOVE, a strong simple piece of work, has a deeper meaning with many differences in numerous areas. With people passing by and posing with a squared heart and people stunned at the simplistic design remember what Oscar Wilde once said, "A work of art is the unique result of a unique temperament."

Repton School Essay
Amit Ruparel, 15, is a boarder at Repton School, doing his GCSEs. He lives in Derby with his parents, brother and sister. I wake up at around half-past seven with a big yawn. I then get up, grab my towel and shower gel, go downstairs and have a shower. Every time I wake up at this time of the morning I think if I were at home I would be still asleep. As soon as I have had my shower I go back upstairs and get changed. I then go downstairs for breakfast, which is compulsory. For breakfast I have a bowl of cereal and a glass of fresh orange juice. I like eating cereal at any time of the day. I think that it is nice at any point of the day. I also believe that fresh orange juice is really good for you. Recently I have been trying to be careful with my diet due to my weight, I am trying to eat as healthier as possible. When I have had my breakfast I go upstairs and check if I have any unfinished prep to do and if I do then I get on with it. If I have not got any unfinished prep or any other work to be getting on with I turn on my computer and play some games. My computer is a very important part of my life; I could not do much with out it. I have always used the computer wherever I can; I use it for my work as well as playing on it when I am bored. I get my books ready a few minutes later so I leave the house five minutes before the lessons start or even earlier, so that I do not get punished for being late to a lesson. My school is like a mini village in where by you do not have to walk so far, therefore I do not have to leave to go to school so early. The first lesson starts at ten to nine and ends at half past nine. I then have a five-minute break, which I get between every lesson. After the third lesson I have a break for half an hour. During the break I usually get myself a drink and a snack to eat. At one oââ¬â¢clock, after the fifth lesson, I have lunch, which lasts around forty minutes. I then go to my room and listen to music on my computer for ten to fifteen minutes, then get my books and go to the last three lessons, which finish at four oââ¬â¢clock, unless I have a half day. If so I will carry on playing on my computer or get changed and go to computer programming. I do computer programming because I enjoy playing around with software and also I have had past experience on it because I always watch my brother on the computer whilst he is making new programmes as project and so I would know quite a bit about making them. I like computers so much that I am thinking about taking a career towards those lines. On a Tuesday (half ââ¬â day) once I have finished computer programming I will go to badminton for an hour, but if it is a Thursday I will go and hang around with my friends. After badminton I come back to the house, have a shower and then go and ââ¬Ëhang outââ¬â¢ with my friends. I come back to the house after five always finding someone in the house yard to play a game of football with. I go to tea at six oââ¬â¢clock. I think that in our house tea is the nicest meal. As soon as I have finished I run outside and play football in the yard again but I would prefer being on holiday, as I would be out playing cricket or at home playing on the Playstation 2. I have always loved holidays and going home for them. When I am at home it is so relaxing and there is not much work to be donââ¬â¢t and if there is then it can be done when I am bored. I go upstairs at seven oââ¬â¢clock get my books for the subjects that I have prep to do for and then go downstairs to ââ¬Ëthe workerââ¬â¢ and do my prep there. This is the part of the day, which I find most boring and when I wish that I was at home. I go downstairs and watch TV for a while after prep, but if nothing interesting is on I go and play on my computer. At this point if I was at home I would be going out with my friends. I go upstairs from the TV room to my room at half ten if I was downstairs to get ready for bed. At quarter to eleven it is lights out. I hate going to bed so early if I was home Iââ¬â¢d still be out with my friends. I like going out at night. I find the vibe that is around you at night is amazing. When I go out at night it would probably be going to the cinema, playing pool at a club called Rileys or to the pub.

Essay on Eco Criticism - 1998 Words
Research Paper Literature Volume : 3 | Issue : 1 | January 2013 | ISSN - 2249-555X Ecology in Relation to Ecocriticism ââ¬â A Theoretical Approach Keywords Ecosystem, ecological concern, ecocriticism, theoretical analysis. Whatever human beings do to the ecosystem have the reflections back. If man does not harm nature, the nature keeps him safe. Ecological concernsâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦Glotfelty had urged literary critics in a 1989 Western Literature Association meeting to develop an ecological approach to literature, which would focus on the cultural dimension of humansââ¬â¢ relationship to the environment. Since the interest rate, fees and terms of subprime mortgages are typically higher than conventional loans, the lenders are able to profit from this type of loan (Moulton Bozeman, 2011). Between 1982 and 2003, Countrywide reported substantial earnings, and the offered profitable returns on stock investors. By offering mortgages and loans to borrowers who would not ordinarily qualify, the ees and interest were collected from thousands of borrowers with this type of loan. They also extended loan privileges to a large amount of the population who would not ordinarily be able to own homes. Business Ethics: Ethical Decision Making and Cases, 8th Ed. , What was Countrywides logic in thinking that originating loans for people with poor credit ratings would result in positive outcomes? Word count: 182 Before the real estate crisis, the subprime mortgage industry was praised for helping people attain homeownership (Ferrell, 2010). Subprime mortgages helped minorities and lower income people be able to afford to own a home. At the time, it was thought of as a positive financial tool. Since there were more people being able to attain loans to own a home, other industries benefited from the effects of the subprime mortgage practice. Contractors, the building supply industry and real estate agencies were all profiting from these lending practices. It seemed that these types of loans were helping many industries. In a speech given by Govenor Edward Gramlich in May, 2004 (www. federalreserve. v), he spoke of these lending practices and said the increased availability of subprime mortgage credit has created new opportunities for homeownership and has allowed previously credit-constrained homeowners to borrow against the equity in their homes to meet a variety of needs.

Validity, Reliability and Generalization in Research
Introduction Validity, reliability and generalization are important concepts in business and management research. In different contexts, research is a clearly defined process where different elements and are studied, analysed and presented to show new approaches that increase knowledge regarding a particular phenomenon. Validity, reliability and generalization are crucial concepts in management research because they determine the manner in which management theory is applied.Advertising We will write a custom critical writing sample on Validity, Reliability and Generalization in Research specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More Modern management theories have demystified many assumptions that are related to business practices which are observed in various environments (Riege 2003, p. 75). Therefore, it is important for researchers to understand the link between theory and practice and how these two concepts impact on management discourses. This paper will analyse the importance of validity, reliability and generalization in business research. The Role of Validity, Reliability and Generalization Validity can be described as an element of research which ensures that a study is conducted in a professional, accurate and systematic manner. This increases the credibility of a research study in the eyes of different people who are directly affected by its findings. In modern management research, validity ensures that a researcher vets the quality of his work before he shares his findings with other people (Riege 2003, p. 77). This approach enables a researcher to use accurate empirical tests to find out more about the sources of his information and how they impact on the quality of information he obtains. This ensures all conclusions reached by his study are backed up by relevant data and statistics. It is important for the data gathered and conclusions reached to correlate to bring about the desired conclusions in a partic ular study to make its findings more relevant to its users. Therefore, research studies should be conducted in a manner that allows findings to be interpreted in different management and business contexts. Different forms of research design use tests and other procedures to determine the level of validity in a researcherââ¬â¢s work. There has been a divergence of views about how various aspects of cause and effect relationships influence the application of the gathered data and statistics in research. For instance, in some aspects of case study research, researchers may be forced to review their personal feelings towards different subjects they are studying to ensure they maintain an objective approach in their work (Riege 2003, p. 81). A researcher needs to rely on other external tools to remove any bias that may negatively impact on the validity of conclusions and findings adopted by his study. In academic and real world perspectives, there is a difference in the manner in whic h knowledge gathered is understood and applied.Advertising Looking for critical writing on business economics? However, a researcher needs to understand differences between academic environments and real world business environments and how they impact on his work. Reliability is an important concept in management research. It allows a researcher to attain goals that have been set in the beginning to ensure he understands how his study is likely to impact on different groups of people. Therefore, concepts of openness, debate and objectivity help to measure the reliability of a particular research study and its findings. In management and business research, researchers must be ready to defend the methodologies they use to come up with different conclusions and findings (Cornelissen Thorpe 2004, p. 3). They need to use evidence based, real life situations to ensure that the knowledge they gather can be used to make a positive impact in different fields. It must be noted that modern business research is applied in an environment characterised by constantly changing management practices which threaten the relevance of previous bodies of knowledge gathered through research. Therefore, all processes a researcher uses to come up with new bodies of knowledge should measure up to high intellectual standards. Researchers need to use analysis processes which are correctly linked to the central idea of their studies. They need to use techniques which accurately capture the viewpoints of different sources of information they use in their studies. More importantly, both academic and real world applications of knowledge obtained should be able to verify the accuracy and suitability of various research processes u sed. For instance, tests are used in research to find out if specific processes used by a researcher are logical and accurate. It is also important for a research study to show how results obtained can be transferred to other settings to reveal how they correlate with other forms of knowledge (Cornelissen Thorpe 2004, p. 6). A researcher needs to understand that every study undertaken seeks to find out new knowledge and how it can be applied in different academic and business contexts. Therefore, a study conducted should be analysed and critiqued by different scholars to find out the credibility of arguments it advances. The concept of generalisation has a significant role in business and management research. In some instances, researchers may need to use existing bodies of knowledge to come up with hypothesis regarding different phenomena they are studying. This allows them to understand the main arguments that justify their studies and specific qualities of phenomena they are stu dying.Advertising We will write a custom critical writing sample on Validity, Reliability and Generalization in Research specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More Many researchers move from the known to the unknown concepts in their quest to uncover new information regarding a particular phenomenon (Cornelissen Thorpe 2004, p. 9). This allows them to use a study process that connects data collection, methodologies and theoretical applications of the knowledge they obtain. Therefore, generalizations equip researchers with important skills which they use to find out more about different paradigms of existing research knowledge. In effect, they are able to understand specific problems they seek to solve through their studies. Consequently, they are able to identify gaps between theory and practice and how they impact on the way business research knowledge is applied. Generalizations guide researchers to make both correct and incorrect infer ences regarding cause and effect relationships that affect various phenomena they intend to study. As a result, this allows researchers to use different approaches to predict and measure different variables. It is important for researchers to have safeguards to ensure that methodologies and research designs they use conform to high intellectual standards. In addition, researchers need to gradually shift from a perception influenced by multiple perspectives to one influenced by methodologically proven concepts to strengthen their arguments (Cornelissen Thorpe 2004, p. 13). They need to interpret different theories within existing business and management frameworks to find out their true impacts. They also need to use both analytical and empirical studies to come up with comprehensive knowledge in their studies. Therefore, this makes their studies more comprehensive because they are able to highlight issues that have not been well addressed by other existing bodies of knowledge. Appl ication of Validity, Reliability and Generalization in Designing a Questionnaire The role of validity, reliability and generalizations in questionnaire design needs to highlight important factors that underpin Human Resource Management research in an academic setting. The research design needs to focus on the contemporary application of existing HRM research theories in both academic and professional contexts. This approach will make it possible for a researcher to determine the relevance of current HRM bodies of knowledge in equipping students with vital skills they need to succeed (Tsang Williams 2012, p. 5). Therefore, this approach allows a researcher to avoid personal biases that may influence the nature of findings obtained from his study. It is important for a researcher to formulate important objectives he seeks to achieve to ensure he comes up with a strong hypothesis. Since HRM consists of many concepts, questionnaires should be brief and clear to ensure they elicit valid responses from participants.Advertising Looking for critical writing on business economics? As a result, a researcher is able to use more appropriate methodologies which measure different variables that impact on a study. In effect, a researcher will be in a position to understand limitations that make respondents not to share accurate information regarding a particular phenomenon. Therefore, these principles are beneficial during sampling because a researcher takes time to vet all participants to determine their suitability. This will enable him to compile a list of participants who are aware about their specific responsibilities in making the study a success. In effect, a researcher is able to use suitable methodological tools and sampling techniques which have worked well in previous research studies to conduct his own study (Tsang Williams 2012, p. 7). Additionally, a researcher may opt to develop his own research methodology which is suitable for his study. All these fac tors determine the nature of results obtained out of a particular research process. An effective research process needs to focus on situational factors that impact on the information gathered from respondents. Previous HRM models have focused on understanding events that occur in various organisational settings and how various factors they outline can be measured or controlled. More importantly, validity, reliability and generalisation allow deductive reasoning by a researcher to ensure all steps of his study state specific implications that are likely to be realised. Consequently, this allows a researcher to design a questionnaire that serves multiple purposes as a data gathering tool. As a result, the questionnaire is able to capture behavioural as well as personality issues that are likely to influence respondentsââ¬â¢ bias and attitudes (Tsang Williams 2012, p. 11). Furthermore, this helps him to understand beforehand the quality of responses that he expects to obtain throug h his study. Thus, a researcher is able to understand the limitations of processes he is using and how they can be addressed to improve the quality of his findings. The three concepts allow researchers to share relevant knowledge with their participants on how different management perspectives shape their thinking. The patterns of questioning used may either describe or gradually predict the manner in which different participants involved in the study are likely to respond. Therefore, using literature already gathered, a researcher is able to make inferences on the type of results he is likely to obtain to understand if they confirm or contradict his earlier assumptions. This makes it possible for a researcher to investigate different aspects of reality thoroughly, to come up with new theoretical findings that add value to the study (Vincent, Bharadwaj Challagalla 2005, p. 11). Since most of the participants in such a study are likely to be students, a researcher gets an opportunit y to investigate their understanding about real world application of HRM principles. Through their participation, the researcher may get to learn how to interpret the data gathered constructively. These processes are also important in the formulation of a hypothesis. The hypothesis serves as a comprehensive assumption that allows a researcher to think analytically about what he intends to achieve from the research process he embarks on. As a result, a researcher takes time to look at different theoretical interpretations of the topic he seeks to study and their relevance. More importantly, validity, reliability and generalisation allow a researcher to move from broad theoretical concepts to narrow theoretical concepts as he investigates different factors that impact on his study. In effect, this allows him to make a positive impression on HRM post graduate students because of the high levels of professionalism he exhibits in his work (Vincent, Bharadwaj Challagalla 2005, p. 16). Th erefore, he will be able to come up with appropriate findings and conclusions that stimulate intellectual discourse in different settings they are applied. When using generalizations to design questionnaires and other methodological tools, researchers need to take note of standards used to measure the quality of management research. In their research designs, they should maintain links between empirical models and other processes used gather and document the information they gather. The empirical formats used and the results obtained out of these processes should match characteristics of phenomena being studied (Vincent, Bharadwaj Challagalla 2005, p. 18). Moreover, it is important for a researcher to find out specific theoretical concepts that are important to his study and how they affect the credibility of results obtained. For instances, a researcher may need to understand how various branches of HRM studied by students influence their academic and career choices. As a result, this makes him take note of research gaps that are likely to occur in his questionnaires to understand how they are likely to affect his study. Recommendations for a Questionnaire Before the questionnaire is done, it is important for effective sampling techniques to be used to determine the nature of the respondents. The researcher needs to find out the number of people he intends to gather responses from and how they represent the whole population the survey will be based on. Since the questionnaire will mainly target HRM post graduate students, the first criterion for a respondent that seeks to be included in the sample is that he or she must belong to this population (Mohrman, Gibson Mohrman 2001, p. 358). Subsequently, he must look at other factors that are likely to define the exact sample for his study such as; age, lifestyle, cultural background, previous professional training and career ambitions. Therefore, he needs to use randomisation techniques to ensure he chooses resp ondents with diverse behaviour, lifestyles and career aspirations, to make his study more credible. The final number of respondents chosen should represent all the other students in the institution. The stratification technique will make it possible for the researcher to find out if the sample he has chosen is a true representation of all postgraduate HRM students in the institution. The researcher needs to decide on the segments of all student population that are crucial to the survey and their respective statistical relevance to the study. In addition, the researcher will have to use different criteria to stratify all segments of the student population by focusing on their interests, learning patterns, intellectual accomplishments and their attitudes towards the course. The researcher can use computer applications to select student respondents who represent different categories (Mohrman, Gibson Mohrman 2001, p. 360). Subsequently, a researcher needs to include representative perc entages of all sub-groups that are to be used in the sample before proceeding with the study. This approach will help a researcher to come up with a more accurate sample that comprises of students drawn from all statistically relevant sub-groups. Before designing the questionnaire, the researcher needs to understand the manner in which survey estimates are going to be tabulated. Both sampling and non-sampling errors are likely to affect the design of the questionnaire survey used by the researcher. The design of the sample needs to look at differences in estimates which are likely to affect the quality of the sample used. In addition, the researcher needs to note other non- sampling errors in questionnaire design which may affect the quality of responses he obtains. For instance, errors that occur due to bias may distort the views of the surveyed population thereby casting aspersions on the objectivity of the findings. He also needs to find out if his sampling techniques stratify th e targeted population effectively (Mohrman, Gibson Mohrman 2001, p. 362). As a result, the researcher needs to be aware about this issue because it may make it difficult for him to compile accurate data from all segments of the post graduate HRM student population in the institution. Before using the questionnaire survey, the researcher needs to look at other problems which are likely to occur as he carries out his work. He needs to use effective data gathering, editing and evaluation processes to ensure the quality of his work remains high. In addition, the questionnaire design should check on responses that are either unclear or misleading. This problem can be eliminated through using appropriate and easy to understand language in the questionnaire (Mohrman, Gibson Mohrman 2001, p. 365). Therefore, it is important for the researcher to engage with HRM students he has chosen to participate in the study to find out their language skills and levels of exposure. This will help him t o compile suitable questions for them to respond to. As a result, sampled respondents will be in a better position to answer different questions they are asked properly. This will ensure research findings and conclusions reached are valid and reliable. The time in which the survey is going to be conducted has a direct consequence on the results attained from the study. It is important for the researcher to come up an effective work schedule that outlines when specific tasks are going to be performed during the study. The most appropriate survey will be a cross sectional survey which will relate why the students chose to study HRM and how this influences their future career ambitions (Mohrman, Gibson Mohrman 2001, p. 367). As a result, the research study will be able to address different factors being studied within a short period of time. More importantly, the researcher should also consider other factors such as failure by respondents to give out any information and how this impac ts on the quality of his study. As a result, he will be in a position to evaluate the goals of his research to find out if they conform to his initial expectations. Women in Post Colonial Society essays
Women in Post Colonial Society essays Historically, women are an oppressed people not by birthright, but by baptism. Women are kept, maintained and contained through terror, violence and spray of semen. It is profitable for the colonizers to confine our bodies from our own life processes... (Clarke, Cheryl Lesbianism: an Act of Resistance, pg 128-137) Societies often create for women a false duplicity, where they are the creators, but also the unclean. Women in mythology appear as deceivers and tricksters; Judeo-Christian traditions Eve, the first woman, is not only responsible for mans fall from Eden, but also for all mankinds toil. What more powerful statement of the males supremacy than to create in woman the image of evil, weakness, and temptation? No more is this more painfully expressed than in post-colonial societies, where the nations recovering from an infection of foreign ideas purge themselves, violently, of all things alien self and other - and thus unwanted. Womens rights are among the first irritan ts to be regurgitated, and this social sickness appears strongly in the literature of these nations. Women in these novels, trapped by social and religious obligations, as well as the cycle of domestic abuse, are usually the most tragic and most invisible victims of de-colonization. In particular, Tsitsi Dangarembga espouses the role of women, both physical and symbolic, in works such as Nervous Conditions. The confusion of womens role in society was never more chronic than in states undergoing changes in political structure. In societies where men are truly confident of their own worth, women are not merely tolerated but valued stated Aung San Suu Kyi to the NGO Forum on Women, China, early September 1995. In nations such as Rhodesia, where foreign invaders are treated like minor deities (Nervous Conditions 103) it is difficult to maintain a sense of self w...
